About Us
About the Program
The
Sunday School Program for our 4-5 year olds is held during the 9:00am Mass
on Sunday mornings, September - April. The students enjoy the craft
projects, music, free play, and stories that allow them to experience
God in their lives.
The 1st – 6th graders meet on Wednesday evenings
from 4:00-5:00pm and 5:45-6:45pm. The students focus on grade level appropriate
curriculum in topics of faith and the Catholic Church. In addition,
they celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation, honor Mary with a May
Crowning, do various social justice projects, and have time for
fellowship and community building.
The middle school students meet on Wednesday evenings from
7-8:15pm. The high school students meet on Wednesday evenings from
7:15-8:30pm. The students focus on grade level appropriate curriculum in
topics stemming from the history of the church, the story of Jesus, and the four pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. In addition,
they celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation, do various social
justice projects, and have time for fellowship and community building.
Sacraments
Religious
Education offers preparation programs for the Sacraments of First
Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation.
The Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion are
celebrated with students in 2nd grade.
-
First Reconciliation is held in December.
-
First Communion is held in May.
The students
prepare for the Sacraments with the following curriculum:
-
First Reconciliation - 2nd grade
Blest Are We textbook
-
First Communion - Eucharist: We Give Thanks and
Praise
textbook
The preparations for these Sacraments begin with the parents as they are
the primary teachers of their children in our faith. A meeting is held
in October for Reconciliation and January for Communion. At the
meeting, the parents are instructed in the history/theology of the
Sacrament, given materials to use at home to further the learning
happening their child’s/children’s classroom, and necessary details &
dates are shared.
The 2nd graders participate in a First Communion Retreat on a
Saturday afternoon in late February or early March. They attend
Mass following the retreat where they are officially welcomed by the parish as candidates for First
Communion.
The Sacrament of Confirmation for juniors and seniors is celebrated
every other October on a Sunday afternoon.
The preparation begins with a student and parent meeting held in early
spring of the Confirmation year. At the meeting, the students and
parents are instructed in the history/theology of the Sacrament and
necessary details & dates are shared.
The students are introduced to the parish at a weekend Mass when their
names are called and they make a commitment to the process of preparing
for the Sacrament.
The students begin preparation classes in late spring and continue in
the fall with more weeks of preparation
classes.
The curriculum used for Confirmation prep is Confirmed in a Faithful
Community, Immediate Preparation Edition.
In addition to
the preparation classes the students are asked to…
-
